Physical Geography aims to explain the geographic pattern of weather and climate, landform development and their interactions with the biosphere. Geomatics includes scientific and technological activities that integrate various fields, including cartography, remote sensing and geographical information systems GIS.

Our department has been blending theory and practice for more than five decades through experiential learning in labs, seminars, field courses, internships and much more. These experiences have been developed to help you apply what you learn in class outside the classroom walls. Professors in our programs engage in a broad range of research activities and incorporate interactive elements into their courses.

This often includes spending time outside of the classroom around campus and across Niagara. In our classes, dedicated scholars and research practitioners blend classroom learning with small-group seminar discussions and hands-on lab experiences.

Many courses also have a strong experiential components, including, for example, a fourth-year internship course, third-year field research courses, a co-op option, and specialized courses involving travel to Canadian or international destinations. Students in our programs have done field courses and internships all across the world in places such as Croatia, London, Chicago, Peterborough, New Zealand, Florida Disney World , Thailand, and more.

The discipline of Geography has a broad scope and combines elements of both the social and natural sciences. Two principal divisions of the subject exist — human geography and physical geography — linked by a common background: a mutual concern for humans and the environment, and a body of related theory and methodology.

Two specialized degrees — BA Geography and BSc Geography — allow you to integrate human and physical geography, as well as geospatial technologies e. Our distinctive tourism degrees cover the fundamental areas of tourism management, but go much further, taking students into the long-term future of the industry and its place in society.

Tourism is one of the largest industries in the world, and our programs explore how humans can manage the opportunities, challenges and consequences associated with our ever-changing quest for travel. Two specialized degrees — BA Tourism and Environment and BA Tourism Environment, Tourism Management stream — allow you to integrate sustainability and management into our programs of study.
